FAQ
What is TENCEL™?
TENCEL™ is a branded fiber made from wood pulp, specifically from eucalyptus trees. It’s produced through an eco-friendly process called lyocell, which involves transforming the pulp into fiber using a closed-loop production system. This process uses non-toxic solvents and recycles water and solvents, making TENCEL™ a highly sustainable material.
Is TENCEL™ biodegradable and environmentally friendly?
Yes! TENCEL™ is biodegradable and made from natural resources, making it a more environmentally friendly option compared to many other fabrics. The production process uses sustainable practices, such as recycling water and solvents, reducing waste and chemical runoff. It’s an eco-conscious fabric that decomposes naturally without leaving harmful traces behind.
How does the production process of Tencel work?
TENCEL™ is produced through the lyocell process, which involves dissolving wood pulp (from eucalyptus trees) in a non-toxic solvent, and then regenerating it into fibers. This process is considered a "closed-loop" because 99% of the water and solvents are recycled, reducing waste and environmental impact. TENCEL™’s sustainability is also ensured by Lenzing AG, a company that has pioneered the closed-loop process.
Is Soon After's TENCEL™ certified?
Yes! Our TENCEL™ Lyocell bedding is 100% certified by Lenzing AG and meets high environmental standards. It’s also certified underOeko-Tex Standard 100, which ensures that the fabric is free from harmful substances and safe for human health.
Does TENCEL™ pill over time?
Pilling is a natural occurrence for delicate fibers, especially when they experience friction over time. However, TENCEL™ is known for its durability and resistance to pilling. Its smooth, uniform fibers prevent friction, making it less likely to develop pills compared to other fabrics like cotton. While pilling can happen to any fabric, TENCEL™'s unique structure helps keep your bedding looking fresh and smooth for longer.
Can I use these sheets if I'm allergic to eucalyptus?
Yes, you can! Our sheets are crafted from eucalyptus wood pulp, which is carefully processed into yarn without any oils or fragrances that could trigger allergies. Thanks to the closed-loop production method, the fabric is hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin. So, you can rest easy knowing your bedding is both safe and comfortable. However, if you have a known eucalyptus allergy, it’s always a good idea to check with a healthcare professional first.
