FAQ - What to expect from TENCEL™ Lyocell
What is TENCEL™?
TENCEL™ is a branded lyocell fibre made from sustainably sourced wood pulp, primarily eucalyptus, and produced by Lenzing AG in Austria, the company that invented the fibre. It's made through a closed-loop process that uses a non-toxic solvent and recycles up to 99.8% of the water and chemicals used. The result is a breathable, naturally soft fibre that's biodegradable, hypoallergenic, and one of the most sustainably produced fabrics in the world.
Is TENCEL™ biodegradable and environmentally friendly?
Yes! TENCEL™ is biodegradable and made from natural resources, making it a more environmentally friendly option compared to many other fabrics. The production process uses sustainable practices, such as recycling water and solvents, reducing waste and chemical runoff. It’s an eco-conscious fabric that decomposes naturally without leaving harmful traces behind.
Are Soon After sheets good for hot sleepers?
TENCEL™ Lyocell is naturally temperature-regulating and moisture-wicking, it draws heat and moisture away from your body and releases it quickly, so you stay cool in summer and comfortable in winter without overheating. It's one of the best fabric choices for people who sleep hot.
Is Soon After's TENCEL™ certified?
Yes! Our TENCEL™ Lyocell bedding is certified by Lenzing AG and meets high environmental standards. It’s also certified under OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, which ensures that the fabric is free from harmful substances and safe for human health.

Does TENCEL™ pill over time?
TENCEL™ is more resistant to pilling than most fabrics. Its smooth, uniform fibre structure reduces friction, keeping your bedding looking fresh for longer. Some pilling can occur overtime with heavy use, but it's far less common than with cotton.
Can I use these sheets if I'm allergic to eucalyptus?
Yes. Our sheets are made from eucalyptus wood pulp that's fully processed into fibre - the oils, proteins, and fragrances that typically trigger eucalyptus allergies are not present in the final fabric. If you have a severe known eucalyptus allergy, we'd recommend checking with a healthcare professional first.
Is TENCEL™ hypoallergenic? Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. TENCEL™ Lyocell is naturally hypoallergenic, gentle on sensitive and eczema-prone skin, resistant to bacteria and odour, and free from the synthetic chemicals that can irritate in other fabrics. OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification means every component of our bedding has been tested safe against skin.
Is TENCEL™ suitable for babies or children?
Yes. TENCEL™ Lyocell is an excellent choice for little ones - naturally hypoallergenic, free from harsh chemicals, and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, meaning every component has been independently tested safe against skin. Its natural moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating properties are also ideal for babies and children who tend to overheat at night.
Do Soon After sheets get softer over time?
Yes! One of TENCEL™ Lyocell's best qualities is that it softens with every wash. Unlike cotton, which can stiffen over time, TENCEL™ becomes progressively softer and more comfortable the more you use and wash it.
Are Soon After sheets good for homes with pets?
Yes. The 400 thread count sateen weave is naturally fur-repellent, pet hair sits on the surface rather than embedding in the fabric, making it much easier to remove. The fabric is also bacteria and odour-resistant.
For cat owners: the tightly woven sateen construction holds up better to light contact than loose-weave linens or percale. We'd still recommend keeping claws trimmed for the longest lifespan.
